This week in La Familia Pegaso: Wk 2![]() SAKHIR, Bahrain — From a point-scoring standpoint, it was the best race Pegaso has had in a very long time. The Bahrain Grand Prix left driver Howard Dewitt wondering slightly about what might have been, and left Albert Puig thinking about what could be. Dewitt led 16 laps in the early and middle phases of the F1 race at Sakhir. He traded the lead with Red Bull’s Bernardino Campolargo and Porsche’s Aljaz Zupancic. Fortune would favor the experienced and the well-funded later in the grand prix, as the Porsches, McLarens and Red Bulls pulled away from Dewitt and Puig in the later going. Porsche’s Luka Zakrajsek won his first race of S60 at Bahrain, with Dewitt and Puig finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. “This is only the beginning,” Dewitt said after the race. “The whole car will just get better and better from here, as Nico Newey over there [pointing to Pegaso Principal NicoRZ] fine tunes everything season to season.” “I haven’t found the limit yet,” Puig said of the Pegaso car, speaking through a Spanish translator to an English-speaking journalist. Pegaso F1 standings: Fourth in the constructors (46 points), Dewitt 8th overall, Puig 9th overall Around the World of Pegaso: Moto1: Alex Montserrat won the sprint and took second in the grand prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas. The Roarin’ Andorran ranks third in the Moto1 points standings behind Truong Phong and perennial motorcycle champion Igor German. Rally: Brazilian Silas Cando ranks fifth in the World Rally Series standings after two rounds. In WRS2, 20-year-old Spaniard Marco Delgado took third at a rally event in Sweden, and sits fourth in the overall standings. Delgado is young, but shows promise in one of racing’s toughest disciplines. Hypercar — Australian great Samuel Webber took a third place finish at the 1,100-mile endurance race at Sebring International Raceway. The former NASC Gold Cup and Formula E champion displayed the all-around skillset that has propelled him to success across the globe over a lengthy career. With two races down, Pegaso has four drivers in the World Prototype Series Top 10: Thibeau Boutsen (3rd), Webber (5th), Jan Bonmati (7th) and Brendan McGee (10th) NASC Trucks — Maria Marti had a big points weekend with consecutive third place finishes at Las Vegas and Homestead Miami. The 25-year-old sits third in the Trucks standings after a fifth place finish in Season 59. They continue an effort to reach the Final Four with an upcoming swing through historic NASC tracks at Martinsville, Bristol and Rockingham. U.S. Formula — Nacer Gonza got to the inside of Finland’s Tuukka Tapponen on the hairpin turn before the airport straightaway on Lap 34 of Race 2 at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Gonza led the rest of the way to win the 64-lap race at St. Pete. In the overall U.S. Formula Pro standings, Gonza ranks second and is 13 points behind Tapponen as the series continues at NOLA. Pegaso driver and fellow Spaniard Jordi De Luca is the third in the series standings. F4 Central Europe — Don’t sleep on Silke Rasmussen. The 24-year-old Dane snapped off back-to-back race wins at Anderstop, Sweden, and Vålerbanen, Norway, on a series-opening Scandinavian swing. Follow F4 Central Europe to see how Rasmussen fares during a race in his home country at Ring Djursland March 12-16. He presently leads the series points standings by 34. F4 French — Spaniard Arnau Massanet, 20, sprayed victory champagne with a sprint race win at Pau-Arnos. We all know some of the greatest drivers in the world come from the French series (just look at the list of alumni), and Massanet is the first non-French victor in a young Season 60. Until next time. “Siempre hacia delante.” |
